The project concerns the environmental aspects of Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine and draw attention to the species of animals and plants that suffer from military operations.

It is a series of short videos featuring affected plant and animal species in ASCII art style. ASCII art offers a simple but unique way of representing images using only text. This technique has practical applications in places where it is impossible to display real images, such as in older computer systems or text-based environments.

The project is called “Black Book” because war destroys the habitats of rare plants and animals listed in the Red Book of Ukraine. The idea is that if the war continues, we will only be able to see these plant and animal species in text form in the future.
