video 2m58 sec, fullHD
This is a monument to a lost aquatic ecosystem. It arose as a reaction to the catastrophe caused by the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station by the Russian occupiers in June 2023. This act led to the destruction of the unique aquatic environment of southern Ukraine: thousands of fish died, the habitats of rare aquatic plants disappeared, and the natural ecological balance of the region was disrupted.
The video combines field recordings of the ocean coast and my spoken Latin names of the affected fish species.

A series of ceramic tiles with high reliefs of fish species affected by the destruction of the reservoir creates a “fragment of the bottom”.
This is a material trace of the memory of an ecosystem that no longer exists in its original form.
Here, someone once swam, breathed, and moved in the silence of the water, and the water preserves this memory.
